Getting String from external socket

Hey Folks,

it's some years ago i wrote applications in VB respectively VB .NET
2003.

We have a java-application based on java-scokets. We try to connect to
the server, send up a string, let the server-app work and wait for a
server-response.

The VB-App connects correctly to the java-app in port 11111 on our
server, transfers an xml string which is parsed, processed and a
response-String is sent back to the client.

Everything works just perfectly, except one thing:

The server response is splitin two parts:

For instnce, if the server responds with "OK - commited 15 rows with 1
warning" we get two messags: One containing the "O" of the OK and
separetely the rest of the message.
My question is: WHY? Now I need to go in a loop to get all parts of
the response message. But I - theoretically - do not know when the
string ends. So just reading the stream once would do the trick.
But i did not find out yet how to "merge" the several strings on the
server- or clientside to represent one final string.

Maybe you got a nice hint for me, why the network stream seems to
split the string up in a one-char-string and the rest-string.

Thanks a lot in advance & kind regards form Hamburg/Germany
