Some FTP questions

P: n/a
Hi newsgroup

I have 2 question for using ftp in .net

I am writing an application that must do some ftp stuff like upload,
download and makedir.

The Functions I have written very fast but here are my questions about it,
because I didn't found something like this in msdn.

1. Before I upload, download... I like to check if the ftp server really
exists. At the moment I am checking if the ftp-address scheme ist a valid
Uri.UriSchemeFtp, but not if the server really exists! So is there a
solution for this?

2. MakeDir: It could be that I have to create several directory (directory -
subdirectory - subsubdirectory), but I don't know if the directory exists or
no. So, at this moment I connect to the ftp server and list the directorys.
If I found the the directory I have to create I reconnect to the server and
list the directory in the directory. If I don't find the directory I use
makeDir for creating the directory, and so on until I finished.
My question is: Isn't there a easier way to create directorys with sub and
subsubdirectorys, without checking if exitsts and whatever?

Thanks alot for the answers.

Best regards
