Table adapters vs. Data adapters

Newbie question.

What is the difference? Why would I use one over the other?

The Base is/are the DataAdapter(s).

The Table Adapter is a created adapter belonging to the strongly typed
datatables in 2005.

At the start from 2002/2003 there were people who wanted to keep the
behaviour of the recordset. That is stopped, but the combination
datatable/tableadapter looks a lot like that. Now we want let say a
dataadapter with more possibilities. (Opposite direction).
