Converting plain-text report files to MS Word .doc files using Word.Application

P: n/a

I have a program that I originally wrote in VB6 that breaks down
plain-text Profit & Loss reports from my organization's Accounting
system into separate files for each Cost Center (office or section).
I post the output files on our local intranet web site for the
managers to access. The brain surgeons at our headquarters
reformatted the original reports so they don't fit on normal 8.5 x 11
inch paper. So, I wrote another little program in VB.Net to convert
the plain-text files into MS Word .doc files with font and page
settings setup to allow the reports to be printed on normal paper.
However, this conversion program is a little slow, taking about a half
hour for a set of reports (about 1000 now). While this is a little
annoying, the real problem is when I forget that the thing is running
in the background and attempt to open a Word doc. Once I open Word,
the conversion is no longer in the background. The files beginning
popping to the top and I am unable to do anything with Word until the
conversion finishes.

Question: Is there a way to set the Word.Application so that it
remains in the background and forces a new incidence of Word to be
created when Word is called from the desktop/Start Menu?
