vb2005 and ce net 4.2

So here I am faced with another terminal! This time the Symbol MC1000.
Nice little fellow.

I've downloaded and installed ActiveSync 4.2, and have a connection to the
PC.

I have 2 questions I hope someone can help with.

1. Why when the portable is connected through ActiveSync does my PC run
like a complete dog? I'm not auto syncing, there is no Task Manager
activity, it just runs unbelievably slowly and mouse clicks don't work,
sometime until the 3rd click!

2. What SDK's will I need to write code with vb 2005, all I see in the
mobile list is PPC 2003, Smart 2003 and .net 5.0. This unit is ce .net 4.2?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Tull.

Have fun with that one, it doesn't even have a touch-screen.

You need to download the CE4.2 SDK from MS.

Whoops, I didn't read this fully:

"What SDK's will I need to write code with vb 2005"

The Compact Framework for 2005 was not originally designed for CE 4.2.
I think MS just released a SP for CF2 that will now support this OS.

Ok, I've downloaded and installed the file MS say is the net 4.2 stuff I
need, and the CF2 SP1. I still don't get any option for CE 4.2 in the smart
device project selection window.

I've tried building a CE 5.0 cab, I'm not surprised that didn't work!

Have I missed something or got something wrong? I would have expected to
see 4.2?

Cheers,
Tull.

PS, you're right, the MC1000 is not a development friendly device!

This link should help:

http://groups.google.com/group/micro...9b1?lnk=gst&q=

By the way, the RemoteDisplay program works great for interacting with
the MC1000 (it lets you emulate a touch-screen and IIRC you get color
too).

Thanks for all your help, I've decided to go back to 2003 for this one, I
just can't seem to get the unit connected and I appear to be doing
everything right.

Does anyone know how I can trap the scanner button and function buttons on
this unit? I've tried KeyDown and KeyPress but I don't get any value on the
'special' keys.

Cheers,
Tull.

Don't worry about this one, I hadn't realised the new Symbol Barcode Scanner
object actually handled all this side of things.
