How can I check UID & PWD against AD?

I need to check that a user id and password are valid in AD. Is there any
way I can check this? My solution right now is to authenticate against an
FTP server. But I'd like to do it correctly.

Thanks.

why do you need to prompt the user for username and password?

you could use double-hop authentication and then you're job is DONE.
right?
