User Controls, Classes and Database Access

I am writing my first (basic) application in VB.NET 2005 that connects to a
SQL Server 2000 database.

I am creating a user control for basic demographic information (name, dob,
ssn, etc.). i was thinking that I would create a class that represents the
demographics tabl and has the ADO connection while the user control would get
it's information from the class.

I am having second thoughts about this. Is a class even needed or is the
user control all that is needed? Should the database connection be in the
main project and be passed to the control or should the control have it's own
connection.

Please help.
