Checking for the existence of COM dependency in a user control

Greetings to all!

I have a few COM components which I've loaded into my .NET project.
I've already completed the program the way I want it to run; however,
I'm running into a small issue. The COM components are looking for
specific software to be installed on the user's machine because it
needs that software to function.

The way I have things set up is the COM objects are loaded onto a user
control and then the user control can be placed on any form. Some
computers are going to have the necessary software while others won't.
I'm thinking that, in the constructor of the user control, I can check
to see if the software is installed, and if so, proceed with loading
the user control. Otherwise, I'd have the user control fail.

Is this the recommended way to handle this situation or is there a
better way?

Thanks,

Kyjan
