EnableViewState Property...

Hello,
In my webform i have two controls one is textbox and another one is button.
In that textbox i marked as EnableViewState property false.

In runtime i typed some characters in textbox and i clicked the button. It makes round trip but it still shows the characters in the textbox. why its happen then what is the use of EnableViewState property?
Can anyone explain.?
