PrintDocument - problems with printer settings

Hi,

my application is accessing PrinterSettings to set page size
programmatically. I have been using it already for a while and never
had a problem like this before.

' get paper size
dim paperSize as System.Drawing.Printing.PaperSize =
PrintDocument1.PrinterSettings.DefaultPageSettings .PaperSize

this worked well untill today. Now it stalls my application. The
same happens when I try sending for example a word document to print.
When I open Printers, the status of default printer is set to
"Opening" but nothing is happening for very long time.

How can I check from my application for something like this and simply
skipp the step above if a printer problem like this occur?

Thank you
