Slow Data adapter Configruation Wizard

When I get to the "Choose your data connection" screen and click the down
arrow by the combo box, it takes several minutes (4 or more) to present my
list of two pre-existing sources. (Both of which are on line.) This only
occurs the first time after I open VB.NET. As long as VB.NET remains open
subsequent clicks are almost instantanious.

Any idea why it takes so long?

Probably just it figuring out the available sources.

My recommendation would be to never use the wizard.

I noticed another symptom, attempting to open the "Server Explorer" also
takes about the same amount of time on the first use. As the two are most
likely enumerating through the same set of sources. This would make sense.
(Just verified that they OBVIOUSLY are using the same set of sources as once
I let the Server Explorer open, the Data adapter Configuration Wizard
populated the combo box instantly.) Anyone know where the list of sources is
contained? Maybe I have some extranious, old dead link there.

At first I thought it might be due to my having an instance of MSDE that was
not started. But I tried the same scenario with it started and still the
first use was very slow.

Still searching for a solution, OTHER than the obvious "don't use the
wizard". A few months back (pre XP Service Pack 4) this did not take so
long. I don't think it's linked to SP4, but...
