Service Event Log Problem

I have a service written in vb.net that calls a dll also a vb.net app.

When the service is stopped it is logged in the Event Application
section. This is normal. What isn't normal is that the service is
logged as stopped and then an exception from the dll is logged after
that. How can this be?

Thanks
Mike
