hi, all
Although this question of whether to use xml or excel has been debated a lot
but i would like some views specific to the application that we are
developing. We are using Access for other non-cad applications, which works
fine and we intend to use XML in a CAD application but we are still unable
to decide which one to use.
We want each project to save its own data, so that when the project is
re-opened, the application has to refer to just the xml file.Any updates or
changes will be relevant to just that xml file. Contrary to an Access
database werin eveyrtime an update, insert is made, we always have to query
particular file and then load its relevent data.
Secondly, once the application is developed it, the CAD project is intended
to be viewed, checked, edited by users at differant locations(not connected
to each other). So having an xml file will eliminate the dependance on a
central database wherein data about all the files is stored.
So are we thinking along the right lines ?
Also, i read in some posts that it needs a lot of work compared to access
when querying (delete, update, insert)
but they were 2-3 years old post. Has xml improved during the last 2-3
years?
Thanks in advance
