Crystal Custom SQL Query on runtime?

Hi, I´m having a problem with Crystal reports, I used the wizard to
connecto to a SQL Server DB, and I selected a table from this DB, and then
with a SelectionFormula of the CrystalReportViewer y selected the records I
need to be used in the report.

This is a performance issue because it bring ALL the table records from the
DB and then the viewer filters the values, I need to know how to use a
custom SQL Query that can be sent from the VB.NET application so the Report
reduces the records that are fetched from the DB.

I read that this can be done using DataSet, is this the only way? can I just
send a SQL QUERY to be used when the report is called? I need a Source code
please.....!
Thanks to everyone!

Sorry for my english
