Read version from file

LS
I tried to read a file's version with the Fileversion class.
This works fine for DLL and exe files.
But I wan't to read the fileversion of an xls or xla file.
How can I do this.
When I look in explorer/file/properties it is a custom property/fiels called
version.
How can I read out this value without opening excel?

Any help is appreciated.
