SmtpMail.Send Hangs

P: n/a

I have a WinForms application to send out emails to a large group of
students. This is not spam, but mail from our university to the students.
Currentl I have a ListView with 4 columns Email, FirstName, MiddleName,
LastName. I also have a form that will load users into this listview from a
number of different places defined by ODBC. The population of this listview
works perfectly, however with a small number of users, the system works fine.
But when a large number of users tries to send (8000), it hangs on the
SmtpMail.Send function.

I have it sending out each individual email by using a For Each loop with a
ListViewItem variable and assigning the Message.TO = Variable.Text, then
assigning the body, etc... and sending.

Do I need some kind of timer, or pause after each send so it does not hang,
or is there another solution.

Thank you,
