MDI pattern for Web Application?

I need to design one Desktop Application and another Web Application in
parallel with similar functionalities. The Desktop Application uses MDI
pattern. I can't seem to find anywhere how to mimic this MDI pattern
(probably in JavaScript) in Web Application. Is this even possible?
