Asynchronous call or ThreadPool

Hi, lookin for help.
Here is the final result : A webService which generate a huge and
complexe pdf file. It can't be called more than X times at the same
moment et will run for several minutes on server.

So, here is my two questions :

How can I make user's request waiting for one of the X first thread to
end for start ? (ThreadPool?)

How can I keep the request open until the result comes out ?
(Asynchronous call)

Am I right ?
Thks for help
