COM performance in secondary thread

don
I have a VB.Net ver 7.1 application that is interfacing to a C++ ATL library
as a reference object. I have noticed that the calls to the ATL object from
VB run about 100 times faster if the call is made from the primary (main)
thread as compared to calls made from within a secodary thread (Thread
class). This can be very important to my application where I may be making
over 1000 calls/sec to the ATL. What is the cause of this performance
difference? How can I impove the execution time of ATL (COM) calls made from
secondary threads?
