openfiledialog in multiselect mode can make an unintended copy of the selected files

I'm using an openfiledialog to select files for attachments in a mail
system. I noticed that if I control click and move the mouse a bit, it will
make a copy of the file in the subdirectory it is searching in. Has anyone
every seen this behavior and is there a workaround to ensure that copies of
files are not made?

Tx for any help.
