VS.NET crashes during build

I've been having problems while building a project. VS.NET frequently
crashes (i.e., closes without a prompt) while attempt to build the project
for the first time after VS.NET loads. Switching from Debug to Release and
back again before I build often fixes the problem. Furthermore, if I get the
project to build once then I don't have any problems until I close and then
restart VS.NET. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? I'm using the
following:

Microsoft Development Environment 2003, Version 7.1.3008
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, Version 1.1.4322 SP1

Thank you,
Lance
