TreeView image node displaying if path is accessible

I'm building a treeview from an xml file. The node values point to
various paths, some of which are network paths.

Next to every node I'd like to display an "offline" image (if that the
path is not accessible). I'd like to do this either before or after
the user selects that particular node.

How do I check for a path's status?

Also I've played around with the AfterSelect event combined with
..refresh and .update but I can't get the image to change upon click.
The image only changes when yet another node is selected.

Which is the right way to do this dynamic image changing?

Do I have to wait until 11:46 on the 23rd of December 2005 before this
message disappears from the top of the list? AAARRRRGGGHHHH. Why can't
people work out how to set a clock.

And why can't the messages have the time stamp of the server rather than the
client?

I'll have a B please Bob.
