Errors using TabControl in designer

I keep getting errors in the designer when I have forms open in the designer
with tabcontrols on.

The error I get is consistent and is:

Microsoft Development Environment

The following exception has occurred:

NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an
object
Everything compiles and runs fine. I see nothing special about the
tabcontrols.

I'm using Visual Studio 2003 with Framework 1.1.

Any ideas on what causes this and how to fix it.. . I can sort it out
temporarily on an individual form by creating a new tab control, copying all
my tabs into it and then deleting the original tab control - but this only
lasts a little while!

I think I am moving towards considering a thirdparty tabcontrol. I would
like to have an easier way of "hiding" tabs, changing the colour of each
individual tab, and making the "tab header bar" transparent - so that the
tabs appear to "float" above the tab control, and don't have a horrible grey
box after the tabs to the end of the tab control (if that makes sense).

I don't mind paying for the right control (not a fortune though!)...
Though maybe the equivalent control in VS2005 is better??? Can anybody
comment?

Thanks in advance
Simon
