bmp handling

hi , I am a Computer Engineering undergraduate and doing a project Chemical
Pathology.

I have to deal with bmp file. I have to identify some rectangle (not a sharp
one) in a bitmap.

Also, I have to measure the width of some "river" like shape.

Could yanyone shed a light on me?

Go to your university's library and get a book on pattern recognition.
