File Info from 300+ directories best way?

I have a network drive that has 300+ directories listed on it. On a daily
basis I get new files.
On occasion a directory or more has some problems and does not get the file.

I want to show each folder and the "Latest" file in each in a tree view.
Currently this takes ~ 5 minutes to do. (Netowrk drive is local Area
Network).

Any suggestions would be great.
Here is what I am currently doing....

For each folder I do this....

Look at each file(s) date in folder

if it is > than most current date of file
make this date current date
endif

next file in folder

Next folder

I would like to get the files in a sorted order so I would not have to go
through all the files if this is possible.

Thanks,

Rog
