Extensibility

I am making a program. This program will be a shell for a group of items each item will be a class that will be derived from a base class the point of this is so that i may add to the program at anytime. One thing that i can not figure out though is how to add menu items programatically. for instance when the program reads the new item i want it to be able to see that this item has a menu item and or items attached to it and to load it and what to do when it is clicked how to i achieve this affect.
