Clipboard query

I cannot seem to retrieve data from the clipboard. Below is the code I run.

Dim thisDataObject As New DataObject
Dim thisData As MyClass = New MyClass("TestData")
thisDataObject.SetData(thisData)
Clipboard.SetDataObject(thisDataObject)
Dim myClipData As IDataObject = _
Clipboard.GetDataObject
Dim FormatName as String = _
myClipData.GetFormats()(0)
Dim DataFromClip As MyClass = _
CType(myClipData.GetData(FormatName), MyClass)

This code creates a new instance of MyClass (thisData), stores it in a
DataObject then puts the dataobject on the clipboard.
It then retrieves the DataObject from the Clipboard, extracts the first
Format name and tries to get the instance of MyClass.
When I run this code I get an error on the last line because
myClipData.GetData(FormatName) is nothing.
myClipData does retrieve a DataObject and FormatName is the name of MyClass
so why is myClipData.GetData(FormatName) nothing?

Can anyone please help.
