Design - Detect mouse events on a region

Hello...

In these days I built a control inherited by a PictureBox that displays some
bars like in an histogram.
So, here comes the problem... I must know the value of each bar. I decided
to make a new control but I failed 'cos the trasparency doesn't work... the
controls covers Graphics methods even when i set them to transparent (is a
fake transparency, I know).
Is there a way to fire the MouseEnter event when i put my cursor on a bar
without doing coordinates calculation everytime? Or maybe there is a way to
show the control without covering the bars?

Thanx
Marco
