How Microsoft sees this newsgroup

This are the people who are awarded for ther work in the newsgroup 2003-2004

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/def...ward&style=toc

Except Herfried you see nobody on this list who is real active in this
farmost largest developer newsgroup

As Fergus Cooney once said"this is the backyard from the Microsoft
newsgroups".

I do not know how the others who are active in this newsgroup think about
it.

Cor,
Actually *any* contributions contribute to being an MVP.

So although I am an Outlook MVP, my contributions here are what helped earn
me the award.

Note: in addition to newsgroups, they look at other areas, such as public
speaking, writing books, writing magazines articles, maintaining a web site.
As long as those activities provides "assistance" with Microsoft products...

Hope this helps

Hi Jay,

You had to be awarded in my eyes for your work for dotNet and not (only) for
Outlook

Did you see anyone from this newsgroup or better there is no dotNet at all
there, it looks if they forget that they are doing someting with Net.

I saw some people who I have seen starting in januari who where MVP (and
that are not you, Herfried or Tom) to throw some rubish in this newsgroup.

I think I stop with it.

However, you show perfectly how the Microsoft people who have to do with the
Microsoft community think about the ones who are active in this newsgroup.

On the other hand, maybe it is only me, but than they could have corrected
that earlier.

While when I see a MVP who is contributing here (excluding Tom and Jay B) he
mostly only paste links and for that, you do not need the book you are

Cor: if you check out the FAQ
http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/def...;en-us;mvpfaqs it says
pretty clearly that there isn't a set formula. I"m not sure what you mean
by 'throwing rubbish' in this newsgroup so I can't really address that.
However, many people participate in NG's all over the place, run or
participate in forums at other web sites, write articles/books etc so
perhaps it may appear that they just started in January, but considering the
fact that it's January now, you can't really claim that someone made MVP who
had no visibility in the .NET community whatsoever last year, started
posting in Jan 2004 and made MVP based on that alone.

HTH,

Bill

How can I become a Microsoft MVP?
There is no set formula, script, or plan you can follow that will guarantee
that you will receive an award. If you have recently begun participating in
a Microsoft peer-based community, do not expect to move into a leadership
role overnight. Earning the respect of your peers and earning recognition
from Microsoft takes time. If you have been participating for a while, you
may already be on your way to achieving MVP status.

Hi William,

Hi Willam,

You can be sure that you and Miha have my deepest respect. (You where also
no MVP in January, so it could not be you).

I know what you are doing in the ADO net group and when you were not
awarded, than you where with the ones I am talking about. (However, luckily,
you are awarded; it is a contradiction in my writing because you are from a
dotnet group).

When I am talking about MVP who came over than it are the ones from the
classic VB groups who suddenly at the end of December and begin January
became active here.

From the real persons from the VB.net group is nobody awarded (Herfried was
it already for his work in the German groups).

In addition, that despite that it is the fastest growing and largest
developer newsgroup from Microsoft where the regulars get many compliments.

is true compliment.

I tried sending you a quick off topic note but the email address bounced

I think the number of typos/grammar mistakes (even made by non-native

isn't)...

Just a hint: There are some other factors which count for being
awarded as an MVP. Using a valid email address can help, otherwise it
may be impossible for Microsoft to contact the person they want to
award.

That about throwing rubish is of course not you Herfried, you could thing
about that.

I shaw a change in behaviour from MPV's from other newsgroups comming to
this group.

You throw sometimes also rubish (connection strings on the wrong place is
the most done), but mostly it is "or very good, good or not bad".

And how about Armin, what he contributes is also not forever very good,
however very often it meets standards that most MVP's except Jay B even
cannot reach.

Forgive me Cor, but I'm having a hard time understanding the point of

Are you wondering how people get selected? Are you wondering if
contributing on this group can get you selected? Are you saying that we

Hi Tom,

This is written in this thread by me to Jay B.
I saw some people who I have seen starting in januari who where MVP (and
that are not you, Herfried or Tom) to throw some rubish in this newsgroup.

I am wondering how people get selected but more if ever someone from
Microsoft responsible for the newsgroups is seeing this newsgroup.

The last 4 months I have only seen things from some Microsoft guys with
Asian types of names, but that was only a kind of contribution, not involved
in the newsgroup communitiy, and surely not things as looking to this
newsgroup. No reaction on bugs, only one time when there was it seemed a
customer who was very angry and maybe had contacted Microsoft.

This is also once mentioned by Fergus and then he said we are in the
backyard newgroup from Microsoft.

There where some guys in this newsgroup (I am not talking alone about me)
who did a lot of good work for Microsoft.

This is become the far most largest developer newsgroup from Microsoft (and
normaly comparising with other newsgroups with very short threads, so even a
larger newsgroup)

While I get messages from people from other newsgroups that the behaviour is
so nice in this newsgroup.

From this newsgroup (you cannot say you are with the most active ones in
this newsgroup) is no one awarded by Microsoft for his work in the VB.net
group. This is more obvious because Jay B also has not becomed a VB.net MVP.

With "not forever" I only want to say that there maybe sometimes be
something that is not right, but also that is mostly is.

Nov 20 '05 #19
Cor,
I am wondering how people get selected but more if ever someone from
Microsoft responsible for the newsgroups is seeing this newsgroup.
This is one of the MSDN managed newsgroups, so there have to be PSS
folks answering some of the questions here. The presence of VB.NET
team members was certainly better a while ago than it is today, but I
guess they're busy working on the next release so you can't really
blame them. As for finding MVP candidates, this groups is definitely
seen too.

The last 4 months I have only seen things from some Microsoft guys with
Asian types of names,
Why does their name matter?

No reaction on bugs,
Well that's one thing MVPs can help you with. If no one from MSFT sees
a bug report here, we can usually make sure it's passed on to the
right people.

you cannot say you are with the most active ones in this newsgroup)
FWIW, quality (correctness and so on) tends to matter more than
quantity when it comes to nominating MVPs.

is no one awarded by Microsoft for his work in the VB.net
group.

I know that at least one person active here could have gotten the
award, but declined to accept it. So just because someone isn't
awarded doesn't mean their contributions haven't been seen.

Your answer to me is as someone once wrote to me, Cor you looks if you are

But that answer I could read myself he told me, the rest of his writing was
in the trend that he told that he was expecting from me an answer, not a
response.

Well, I've been pretty busy lately. I haven't had as much time to spend
in the groups as I would like. So, many times things are answered
before I have a chance :) I don't see any need to reiterate what
someone has already said. And like Herfried, I'm not familiar with
database stuff - so I don't have anything useful to say there. It is
something I'm just now starting to work with, though.

The fact is Cor that I have been posting on VB groups for quite some
time. Years in fact. On both MS and non-MS servers. And I only got
awarded in October.

Nothing I said was meant to be a personal attack. I know you are a
great contributor to this group - and I'm sure that it is noticed. If
you haven't been awarded yet - don't take it personally, just keep doing
what you're doing and I'm sure it will happen.
