Getting Devmode to see printer's orientation is not acurate

I use Devmode and SetPrinter to set the default printer to landscape.
I check using the Windows XP "Printers and Faxes" menu item.
The printer driver reports landscape.

I then use DocumentProperties to retrieve a DevMode for the printer and it
always shows portrait.
A second printer on the system reports landscape in a similar situation.

Any ideas why the first printer always reports portrait? Well, not always -
when "Printers and Faxes" checked it somehow learns that it is set to
landscape.
