Design issue? icons file types vb program

Hi,

I have a vb program that is going to display info like explorer, icon,
filename and filetype (i.e. word document, text file, etc.)

to simplify things I just read all reg types from the registry on app load
and store the extension file type description and icon in a collection.

This takes 10-15 seconds or so. My question is, should I try to cache this
stuff to file so that the next time it loads quickly?
Or just do in on load everytime. Each form will use this same collection so
as not to reread.

Any opinions?

Also, if I should cache, how do I cache and retrieve icons, if caching a
bunch to one binary file that is basically a collection of objects?
