Data wizard <-> Access2000

I have an Access DB.
SS# is primary key (number Long Int).
Generate form in VB.NET w/wizard.
Even though a SS# is entered, when I add (or update after add) I get a
message back that "SS doesn't accept null values".
Even if I set default to 0 (in Access DB) I get same message.
XML schema indicates <DBNULL>. Is this the source of my problem?
Oddly enough, it seems to work if I use an Access wizard to create the DB
but not when I do it manually. I've compared the two fields and they seem
the same.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks
