VB.NET ASP on linux server problem please help

Hi, I am not sure this is the right group to ask as I think the problem is Linux
related but I have had no joy from Linux groups

I am new to both Linux and Programming, I am learning as I go
but have become stuck.

I am trying to create a web application with Visual Basic.NET 2003 for initial
deployment on my suse 9 based web server

When I try to create a new ASP.NET application in visual basic I get a message
saying that ASP 1.0 WAS found on the server but I get an error saying

Unable to create web project the UNC share \\webserver\wwwroot$\application does
not exist or you do not have access

The directory or file obviously does not exist as I am trying to create it so it
must be an access privileges thing, I think, maybe. So my question is,what do I
have to do to get this to work?

I am running the default installation of suse 9.0 with apache2 as the web server
I am not sure how ASP is provided (like I said I am new to this) but I have not
installed anything other than the default installation from the suse DVD

Any help would be much appreciated and if you need more info just ask (and tell
me how to find out what you need if its not obvious)

Oh and please don't say "host the application on windows XP pro or 2003 server"
as is HAS to run on a Linux Machine whether I keep using VB or not.

Thank in advance

Unless you are running mono (http://www.go-mono.com/) on the Linux server,
..NET applications will not run on the Linux box.

Good luck,

Doug

I just installed mono and all is well again, I'm back on track thanks so much

If it has to run on a Linux box, you'd better check out
http://www.go-mono.com/

The Mono Project is an open development initiative sponsored by Ximian that
is working to develop an open source, Unix version of the Microsoft .NET
development platform. Its objective is to enable Unix developers to build
and deploy cross-platform .NET Applications. The project will implement
various technologies developed by Microsoft that have now been submitted to
the ECMA for standardization.

The Mono project has also sparked a lot of interest in developing C#-based
components, libraries and frameworks. Today Mono is not limited to implement
the .NET Framework, but also contains other components.
