LCD Module interaction

Has anyone ever programmed an interface with a LCD module (the simple little
ones you display text on, usually a serial or parallel interface one) with
VB.net? I just purchased a serial interface one (14 pin 8 data stream pins)
to try to figure out how to do it. You could do it in VB6 with a comm
control apparently and C++ with some serial port communication... I think
the one i purchased has Parallel interaction haveing 8 data pins.. if anyone
has any experience please let me know thanks!
