FTP Connection times out after the 10 tries using a timer

I am using a tcpclient to monitor changes to a file on an ftp server. I have set my timer
to monitor the file every 10 seconds.
I am writing messages to the Event log tracking my progess. On the 10th attempt I get
the following error:

System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Receive(Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 size, SocketFlags socketFlags)
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Receive(Byte[] buffer, Int32 size, SocketFlags socketFlags)
at InternetClasses.FTP.ReadLine(Boolean bClearMes) in ....[code snipped to protect the innocent]

Please help.

Thanks.

Hirsi
p.s. I close any ftp connections b4 I open a new one.
