DirectX 9.0

I downloaded the SDK and the vb.net samples run fine in the original format
but when I pull them into VS2003 there are errors all over the place....

Has anyone else encountered this?

There is no activity in the DirectX group so I posted here to see if there
would be a response..

Nak,

I am uninstalling everything and starting this SDK install over again.
Let me know if you know any suggestions that will make this install go
correctly this time.

Hi Scorpion,
It did for me too after I went to windows update but I still get these
compile errors(though I did not touch the samples)
LOL, stupid thing can't even install properly. By the time I had managed

to get it installed I had lost all desire to program with it!
C:\DXSDK\SAMPLES\VB.NET\Common\d3dutil.vb(1073): 'Begin' is not a member of
'Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Font'.

C:\DXSDK\SAMPLES\VB.NET\Common\d3dutil.vb(1088): Overload resolution

failed
because no accessible 'DrawText' accepts this number of arguments.

C:\DXSDK\SAMPLES\VB.NET\Common\d3dutil.vb(1102): 'End' is not a member of 'Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Font'.

Oh dear, that seems like some bad examples! LOL

Nick.

There is no certainty that it will, unfortunately. But you will probably be
assured that it will "un-install" correctly!! :-)

Hi Nak,

The samples seem to now compile correctly...though I didnt do anyting
different than the first time.

However I am getting a message that says:

Could not initialize Direct3D

Any ideas?

Hi there,
Could not initialize Direct3D

What is your graphics card?

Have you got the latest graphics card drivers?

You were right. My graphics card was at 8 not 9 and now it worked. Why the
samples worked though and not the project when compiled is a mystery to me.

I am not real keen on using this in an app right now. If I had so much
trouble to install and get this to run how hard will it be for the end user?

LOL, I can understand your concern but there is no need, DirectX retail
runtimes generally install flawlessly on Windows based systems. I have
never had any problems with installing the retail runtimes, and installing
the managed components *shouldn't* be a problem either. This sort of thing
can be packaged with the application so that you can have everything you
want on 1 CD so to speak, including the .NET Framework.

The only bit that seems to be unreliable is integrating with VS.NET, I have
read many problems, most quite trivial, but once you have it working your
off!! Why not have a go at making a really small DX9 app and then try
getting it to run on a system that does *not* have the .NET framework or
DirectX 9 installed, that would be your biggest hurdle, and if you can jump
that well then your laughing! ;-)

Nick.
