obfuscator

Hi

Does the obfuscator in vs.net 2003 automatically works when a project is
compiled or does it need to be turned on explicitly somehow? Basically I
want my app to be the safest in terms of de-compilation before distributing
it.

Thanks

This is caused by reflections, application.version, application.product,
...., uses reflection calls implicitly, you need to preserve the Main method,
and the the class the Main method is defined, in order to make it work.

We have a documentation on reflections with our own Salamander .NET
Obfuscator,

http://www.remotesoft.com/salamander...dvanced_topics

There is no automatic solution with regard to reflections, manual
configuaration must be used.

By any standard, obfuscation as of today is too time consuming. The next
generation will be much much better, stay tuned for our next major release
of Salamander obfuscator.

I'll take that as a no then? Poo, I wouldn't want to buy an obfuscator,
just use one. AAaah, what the hell, I'm sure I'm more than capable of
writing unreadable code anyway! :-)

Actually, it does... Dotfuscator Community Edition is included with VS.Net
2003. Nick, you could just try downloading the free Dotfuscator Community
Edition from the PreEmptive web site -- maybe it will work with VB.Net
Standard.

John, the obfuscator does not work automatically -- by default, your code is
easy to decompile. Check out the help page on MSDN:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...r/dotf3e5x.asp

Much appreciated, I shall enjoy seeing if I can "obfuscate" my work, nothing
like a bit of "obfuscation" on a Wednesday night.... :-\

Cheers :-)

Maybe you could hire yourself out as a personal code obfuscator. Take a
client's code and mangle it into spaghetti. <g>

There are actually some contests for coders to write the most obfuscated
code, e.g.:
http://www0.us.ioccc.org/main.html

None for Visual Basic that I'm aware of, though. (In my opinion, anything
written in C is obfuscated.)

LOL!! Last night I was sitting here for damn ages trying to work out the
logic in someone else's C code, I decided it was pseudo code in the end,
easier that way ;-)
