errors when starting VB.net - help please

I have VB.net standard installed on a stock DELL running
XP.

When I click on the icon whose target is:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Common7
\IDE\devenv.exe"

I get error msgs:
the first one is:

"A runtime error has occurred.
Do you wish to debug?
Line 70
Error: ClassFactory cannot supply requested class"

the second is:

"A runtime error has occurred.
Do you wish to debug?
Line 153
Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object"

If I choose not to debug, vb opens and all seems to be ok.
this is just an annoyance, but can I make it go away?

Hi,
Weird error. I havn't gotten it but I have received other weird errors
when I try to install Office XP after installing VS.Net. If I install
Office XP first and then install VS.Net the weird errors go away. I don't
know if you have Office on your machine but if you do it might be worth
re-doing the machine and installing Office first. Ken.

Don't panic -- you are not alone:

I hope you will find a solution in the postings referenced above.
