ListView - Finding/Setting The selected Item

Hello.

When you use the ListView1.Item(0).Selected = true, this addis the item to
items which show up int the ListView1.SelectedItems collection, but the item
is not highlighted in the control. How to you get the item highlighted and
how to you identify the specific element which is highlighted?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!!!!!!

Jim,
I think you want to set the hideselection property to false, but please read
the documentation first if it is want you want?

This property retains a form of highlighting after another control gets focus
(first part of my question!), but how how do you identify which item in the
control is highlighted after you leave, or for that matter are within the
control itself?

Have a look at the documentation for:

ListViewItem.Focused
ListView.HideSelection
ListView.FocusedItem

Jim,
The one before is hard to find, this one is more standard.
Listview1.Items(index).Selected =True

Cor
Jim,
Did not read it well,
First of all, the listview can have a multiselect
You have to do a for each loop to find which items are selected.

You can do it in more ways, I give 2 examples the first is for 2003 but with
a little change it works on 2002 too.
\\\\\
For Each item As ListViewItem In Listview1
If item.Selected = True Then
etc()
End If
Next
This is for 2002 and 203
dim i as integer
for i = 0 to listview1.Items.Count - 1
if lsvOntvang.Items(i).Selected = True then
etc()
End If
next

For each works in 2002 as well doesn't it? An inline declaration doesn't
but you didn't do an inline declaration, or did you? Just interested...

I thought so, I didn't know about the other method though, I presume 2003 is
capable of using the default property in the enumeration.

Sorry but I refuse to believe that someone meeting the requirements to use
either VB.NET or VS.NET posesses a 2KB modem, it costs as little as $10 to
buy a 56k modem, and if someone can aford either £90 or £600 to buy a
development suite then they can certainly afford to buy a 56K modem.

Maybe we should have a survey,

Hi Nick, Herfried, Tom

I was an alterboy once - got sacked cos I couldn't perform my duties
seriously. Here, I think we have the right balance. But I'm not sure that
Father Wagner agrees. :-)

My guess is that it's more a case of Herfried feeling that he's neglecting
his flock. And he's talking to himself while looking at you/us (it makes it
easier to self-admonish that way).

What do you reckon Herfried, is this a reaction to the humour level or a
reaction to how much you've been getting involved in it?. Ask your Higher
Self for the truth on this.

My only problem with off-topic sub-threads is that the indentation gets
too great and the subject disappears off the screen!

Regards all,
Fergus

|| I'll set up a news-server for Off-Topic dotnet chat.

With all due respect, I wouldn't use it. The intertwining of advice-giving
and humour within the one newsgroup is what makes it work. Much of the humour
sparks off the topics. To have to go somewhere else to crack a joke is to not
bother. I'm already playing monkey - climbing up and down the threads here
(not a complaint) but to do it in two newsgroups? (insert complaint).

If you feel that our "customers" are not getting good service that's one
thing, but I'd like to be shown evidence of that first.

It <is> a choice whether to follow the off-topic sub-threads. Once you're
satisfied that a query has been answered you can mark it as to-be-ignored. And
off you go for another one without being disturbed by those highlights.

Personally, I find that the humour adds a lot and any downside is
outweighed by the benefits.

Fergus

I certainly was joking about setting it up, because it takes too long.
Humour is certainly acceptable, but sometimes, it is taken too far.
