.net 2003 won't install, setup runs and quits with no msg

Howdy

I just bought a copy of VB .NET Standard 2003, trying ri
install it on my Dell Deminsion 4550. Got plenty of RAM
and disk space, been using VB6 on it for a long time, no
problems, yet when I try to run setup.exe on cd 1 to get
the install going it always says "Setup is starting...
Checking product information for system requirements.
What am I missing here. Please advise.

Thank you I thought there was a faillure about my system because I could
never install updates, but now I know for what that function is

Yeah, I dream of the day that VB.NET tells me there is a service pack
available, I dream, but I know it will never happen (not for 2002 anyway).

Are you sure you turned off all virus scanners and system-checking software?
