Our testing department works with Norton Ghosted partitions , its a small
investment in harddisk space, and one time the time it takes to install all
operating systems on the test machine , however it turned out to be much
cheaper and reliable as other ways we tried out .

http://sea.symantec.com/content/product.cfm?productid=9

it is now symantec ,,,, by the way we use the personal edition costs you +-
$ 70
all the operating systems we use are from MSDN we even test it with all
european language vesrions this way

as i said the primary investment is the one time setup , and harddisk space
for all the norton ghost partitions you need , setting a Ghosted partition
on the computer is a mather of 2 / 3 minutes

Hi, I want to add unit tests in my application using NUnit. At first, I thought to add unit tests in the class that is tested, enclosed in a conditional attribute to remove these unit tests from release code. Though, there is (at least) 2 problems working like that : 1) the class can becoming very large if there is a lot of tests 2) when releasing, the NUnit dll should not be needed => it should not be referenced.

Hi Everyone, I have been writing xBase applications for many years but I am new to VB/SQL for larger applications. In xBase, I would start the main program (form) by opening up all the datafiles (dbf) and indexes (cdx) that I would need to reference throughout the application. I would also keep these files open throughout the application.

I'm trying to get a feel for what most people are doing or consider best practice. Given a mod_perl application talking to a PostgreSQL database on the same host, where different users are logging onto the web server using LDAP for authentication, do most people 1) have the web server connecting to the database using its own user account (possibly through ident), and controlling access to different database entities strictly through...

Our .Net team has just inherited a junior programmer that we need to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, his skill set is largely Access with some VB6 and ASP classic experience. We employ some parts of XP such as pair programming, and this should help. Other than books, does anyone have any suggestions? His skill set is pretty antiquated and we need to get him up to speed as quickly as possible so any suggestions...

When I create a new project in 2005, and I go to save the project files, vb.net displays a dialog box that repeats the name of the application and has a checkbox if I want to create a new directory for it. If I click the checkbox, the new subdirectory gets the same name as the higher subdirectory (which is the application name). For example if the project is called Test, then the subdirectory structure looks like Visual Studio 2005...

Is any one charting packing considered to be the "best"? We've used ChartFX but wasn't too happy about the way data had to be populated along with some other issues which slip my mind right now and Dundas has bugs and doesn't do a good enough job displaying axis labels and is very slow to paint large numbers of series and data points. We're currently evaluating ProEssentials which we are happy with but it's not a native .NET package. ...

I've developed software (vb.net) that renders maps using svg. My manager would like this "mapping component" to be migrated into a library so it can easily be used by other web based applications. So far so good. However, the page that generates the svg (currently a .aspx file) writes directly to response. Unless I'm being silly, it doesn't look like I can put a .aspx file into a web control library, so what would be the best way to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
