Help With Setting Permissions on Folders

I have an applications that imports new AD users. It creates a folder to store the user profile information, and a folder for their home directory.

I would like to set the Permissions on these two folder objects, but I am unsure how. I am fairly new to this side of things so I'm looking for some help or guidance on how to do this.

I haven't worked with ACL's much, so I'm not sure what kind of interfaces to tools are available to help set them on these objects.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can try using the shell command cacls.exe from within the application.
just type in cacls.exe /? in the command shell for options. if that doesn't
work out, you can use WMI to set the permissions. The classes that you might
want to look at would be Win32_Share, Win32_LogicalSh areSecuritySett ing,
Win32_SecurityD escriptor and Win32_ACE. Here's an example of how to change
access settings on a file:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...itysetting.asp

this is in vbscript - you'll need to change this to .net using the WMI class
wrappers under System.Manageme nt namespace.

hope this helps you go in the right direction..
Imran.

Hi All: Is there any way I can get my script to be able to create and CHMOD folders and files??? I always get the following error: mkdir(TESTDIR): Permission denied in /usr/www/users... Is there a way I can enable the script to do all that by placing a ..htaccess file which contains some permissive directives?

Hello, I am trying to get an ASP.NET application to run on a new Windows Server 2003 Standard box. I know very little about ASP.NET applications, but we have the same application running fine on another 2003 box, so I am just trying to set the new server up to match the new one. The application is a DLL and an is invoked with an aspx file. When the aspx is called I get a 404 error, page not found.

I'm trying to set up a group of shared folders. Folder 1 Folder 2 Common Share I want all users that have access to folder 2 to be able to create new folders, add documents to the sub folders, pretty much do everything but delete. I have been unsuccesful so far. I either have to give everyone complete access which then gives them the delete option, or I give them read only which takes away their modify ability.

I refered the engineer at my hosting service to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825738 where he tried to follow the directions there. He said there was no such file: Document settings\ServerName\ASPNET\Local settings\Temp I said it must be a typo, they meant to say c:\Documents And Settings\Server Name\ASPNET\Local settings\temp.

We have a repository of reports(Crystal). It is many folders and subfolders. We have set permissions to these folders based on who needs access to them; we have implemented groups in Active Directory. Problem: I want to populate a tree view with only the folders the user has permission to. I can get the groups the user is a member of. I can't determine which groups have permissions to which folders. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

This is the most excruciating error I have ever had to deal with in 10 years of programming with Visual Basic. I am getting an error albeit intermittent most of the time, but I am now getting it consistently on one of my aspx pages. the following is the error: It happens on either one of two calls. It happens on command.Fill or the Connection.open

My shared host used to have Php configured such that I could place a php.ini file into any directory on my site and that was the php.ini file that the Php cgi would use when it ran scripts. Since upgrading to Php5.1 that is no longer possible (not allowed in Php5.1 (?) ). Anyway, ... this was a very handy way for me to set the include path so that I could keep files with sensitive data (e.g., database usernames, passwords) out of the...

When I have config files in nested folders, Attr1 and Attr2 of the CustomAuthSettings section correctly

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
