.net vb proj questions (simple basic ones)

I am developing a simple .net vb proj and have a few questions that Id be
very grateful if someone more experienced than me could answer.

Firstly, is it possible to set overwrite options when distributing an
installer package as I dont always see the files getting overwritten on XP
pro machine? I've tried setting various flags.

Secondly, can I choose not to have an installshield so basically it will
never allow an uninstall option, I know how to get it to leave files behind
though but Id like to to always be prompted to install and never say that
you have to go to add/remove to uninstall it first as thats annoying.

I am basically a hobbyist programmer, at the moment doing a little work experimenting with some AI stuff. I learned C++, and then tried to teach myself MFC using MS Visual C++ 6.0. I swore off of MFC, which was a nightmare, and have been playing with Borlands C++ Builder. In C++ Builder, creating forms and other GUI elements is much simpler than MFC, very similar to Visual Basic. In the store yesterday, I was looking at the C++ .Net...

Hi all, I have 2 dev. machines, the 1st is Win 2000 with .NET 7.0 and the 2nd is XP Pro with .NET 2003. My Web Server is Win 2000 Server with IIS 5.0. I can create a new project on my test server from the 1st machine, but I receive an 'HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server error" from my Web Server. My userid/password are the same on all 3 machines.

BEWARE beginner questions!! I have some experience in Access but never as much as I want or need. I have decided to get in on VB.Net. I would only rate myself in Access as a Beginner/Intermediate VBA programmer. I have decided to go at learning VB.Net in a more organized manner. I have some questions where answers are not becoming clear with VB.Net. So here goes. 1 All of the books I have accessed do basic one-two form examples...

So we develop and maintain several applications used by several people in the same company, on the same intranet. There are several applications written in VB6, but going forward all of the new development will be done in .NET 2.0, including eventual rewrites of all the VB6 apps. The VB6 executables are all stored in a network folder, and everyone accesses these exe's using shortcuts to them on their desktop. Going forward, we will...

Let me clarify from my last post. I am not using these 4 questions as the sole screening method. Currently in, the Tampa Bay area (Florida) there is an extreme shortage of C# developers. We have utilized just about every method known to man to find candidates, including employment firms (which I do not like to use, but when you're back in against the proverbial wall). With the employment firms they will send over just about anyone. So after...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
