Handle FileIO by seperate class

Hi guy's I've hit a bit of a sticking point, I'm sure
this is simple enough but I just can't get my head around
it and I'm looking for a bit of direction. When dealing
with FileIO up until now I would have created a user-
defined data structure to store my data from which I
could load / save to a Random Access Text File via
textboxes etc on the form. However the problem I'm now
facing is twofold.

the data which has to be saved will be coming from a
database via a datagrid to a text file

the FileIO activities must be handled by a seperate class
so that other VB apps can use them.

The only expeirience I've got of writing my own classes
was for a basic customised arraylist.

What are the things I need to start thinking about in
order to solve this problem, perhaps there is walkthrough
tutorials for this sort of thing, perhaps there has
already been a class written which would fit my needs
perfectly, perhaps I've bitten off more than I can chew
here, perhaps I'm worrying about nothing....

thanks in advance
Regards Steve

Before asking this questions I've spent literally _years_ reading (Meyer, Stroustrup, Holub), googling, asking more general design questions, and just plain thinking about it. I am truly unable to figure out what would be a "proper" OO design (in C++) for this. There may be alternatives to writing my own ODBC handle classes, and I may be interested in them, but I'd like to pursue this particular problem, if for no other reason than to...

Hi, I'm active in VC++ for several years now, so I know some things (I think). Using MS-Access I store a db with lots of entries and uses the VBA techniques to export those data to e.g. HTML, XML and other kind of data. I'm using MS-VC++6.0-Enterprise (with sp6) at NT4-Workstation (sp6a) and MS-Access97 (from MS-Office97). Reason that I won't upgrade to latest Office/VisualStudio is that I must ensure that any application I develop still...

Hello, I am working on a project to manipulate XML files. All of the files, the code, and the output are on network drives. When I run my program I get an exception (see below). I tried giving the LocalIntranet_Zone full permissions in the .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration msc. This had no effect whatsoever. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks,

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
