How to know OS is 32bit or 64bit ?

Hi,

Is there any command to know that OS is 32bit or 64bit.

Please, reply back if any body know about it.

Thanks in advance.

Well, not knowing specifically what *nix you are running on, you could simply do a:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. uname -a
  2.
If you see something like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Linux xxxx.xxxxx.xxxxx 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 #1 SMP Tue May 20 09:35:07 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
  2.
Then you are 64 bit (see the _64 appended in the output. Don't worry about the xxxx.xxxxxx.xxxxx, its the domain I grabbed that from.

Regards,

Jeff
