This is a good link http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/Debian-Binary-Package-Building-HOWTO/

This will tell you everything you need to know. Another quick solution is checkinstall

Hi,

There are many ways to build a debian package. If you know command line then you can go ahead and use the terminal but if you just want to build a package without touching the underlying commands then you can use a GUI tool it's called Debian Package Maker.

You can build package Manually or directly from a Source.

You can download the Ubuntu deb and the source at:
http://gnomefiles.org/app.php/debianpackagemaker

or you can visite the project site:
https://launchpad.net/debianpackagemaker
