That is, you want to log in to a terminal session on your ubuntu system from a windows box? No problem. The easiest tool for that is to install PuTTY on your windows system.

Can't install software in your lab? Still not a problem. PuTTY is small enough to run from a floppy and certainly from a thumb drive.

For using Putty you mean? Maybe, you'll need an ssh-server (as Putty uses SSH). So, in Ubuntu start your favorite Package Manager and search for openssh-server (or of course use apt-get or aptitude to install it).

If you want to use Linux and can't connect to that Ubuntu for some reason (e.g. the SSH Port is being blocked - rare but it happens), you could try using a Live Distribution, e.g. "Damn Small Linux", which you can even run from within Windows! If you want more functionallity and can boot the PC from CD, try Knoppix!

Then there's the possibility of using Cygwin, which offeres a Unix like console under Windows... there are thousands of possibilities.

Of course, more information on any of these solutions can be found either with Google (or your favorite search engine) or, if more complex, in this Forum.

Greetings,
Nepomuk
