Getting the configure arguments for an app compiled from source

I went to recompile my copy of MySQL today (about time UTF-8 was the *default*!), and I stopped to wonder... how did I configure this guy the first time?

Of course, PHP makes this information accessible via phpinfo(). But I don't know of any way to get the original configure arguments (e.g., './configure' '--enable-shared' '--disable-static' etc.) for any other application.

Is this information that is only saved if the developer programs in a way to do so, or is there any way to get this information?

Thanks for your time.

I think I may have figured something out. As long as I don't `make distclean`, it looks like my original configure arguments are at the top of config.log.

You can use show variables and try to glean the information from those results.

In some cases.

Looks like I'll be wanting to write up a logfile. Which is just as well 'cause then it's easier to back up, plus I can log the order in which I've installed everything.
