Why does an SQL2000 database appear to change size, then revert to original?

I have an SQL2000 database running Gentran applications. I am seeing reports that the Schedule purge errors. Apparently this is because the transaction log is full.
However, if I alter either the DB size or Transaction log, using Enterprise manager, after about an hour they revert to the original. There are no hourly schedules running.

There has been an error on one of the processes on the ****** server. Some of the details are below, please take appropriate action thank you.
