Hi,
I am facing one serious problem. As soon as i started the sql server first
time after installtion, my windows 2000 machine reboots. Once the windows
machine comes up, sql server does not get started event if i manually try to
start it.
My Machine configuration is as follows:
1. Windows 2000(5.00.2195 SP3) with intel 2.4 Ghz processor, having 512MB
ram
I am using SQL server 2000 evaluation version.
Event log is giving following error messages:
1. The description for Event ID ( 17052 ) in Source ( MSSQLSERVER ) cannot
be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information
or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The
following information is part of the event: Error: 17822, Severity: 16,
State: 1
Could not load Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'..
2. The description for Event ID ( 17052 ) in Source ( MSSQLSERVER ) cannot
be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information
or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The
following information is part of the event: Error: 17059, Severity: 18,
State: 0
Operating system error 0: The operation completed successfully...
Do any one know how to fix this problem ?
Thanks a lot,

I don't really have a good answer, but where did you get the Evaluation copy
from? It's possible that the installation files were corrupt - have you
tried downloading the latest evaluation version from Microsoft? This also
includes a patch for the Slammer worm, so if you don't have it, you should
get it anyway: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluat...al/default.asp

To add to Simon's response, the Slammer worm targets SSNETLIB, so this
does not sound like good news to me.
Did you download the Evaluation Version recently, or did you find it
in a book somewhere? If you recently downloaded it from microsoft.com
you should be safe, but if you got it from a book, you may be in
trouble.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for ur reply. I downloaded this evaluation version from
microsoft website on 14th april, 2004. I will try with the latest evaluation
version from MS. Is it possible there is some memory leak in the software
which is causing machine reboot ??
Thanksa lot,
Dinesh

That should be the latest version. Still the slight possibility
remains that your download was damaged, but I find this improbable. In
such case, I don't think that you would be able to download at all.
It is very difficult to say why you get these reboots, there are plenty
of possible causes. My prime guess would be a hardware problem, more
specifically that you have a bad memory card. I had problems with spurious
reboots on my machine at home, and I eventually tracked it down to bad
memory.
